The pharmacological effects of magnolia

Pharmacological effects

1. Antihypertensive effect:

The water and alcohol extracts of the dry flower of Magnolia officinalis had antihypertensive effect on intravenous, intraperitoneal and intramuscular injection of anesthetized animals (dogs, cats, rabbits, rats, etc.). Intramuscular injection also has an antihypertensive effect on non-anaesthetized dogs, and 1g/kg (calculated according to crude drug) reduces blood pressure by more than 40%. The antihypertensive effect was also observed in experimental renal hypertensive rats, but not in dogs with renal hypertension, but there was a significant antihypertensive effect on elderly "primary" hypertensive dogs. The antihypertensive component is the part that is soluble in ether in the degreasing aqueous solution. Its principle of decompression does not seem to be related to the central nervous system, but directly inhibits the heart, especially the expansion of blood vessels and ganglion blockage. Antihypertensive effect is not obvious when taken orally, probably because the active ingredient is not easily absorbed. Root contains magnoflorine, it has antihypertensive effect.

2. Effect on striated muscle:

The alkaloid crystals (C17H19O3N) in the flower buds of Rhododendron maxima have arrowhead-like effects on the specimens of the frogs' rectus abdominis; whereas the decoctions on the contrary have acetylcholine-like effects.

3. The role of the uterus:

Xinyi decoction, flow extract on the uterus (rats and rabbits isolated uterus, dogs and rabbits in the uterus in place) excitatory, and does not significantly affect blood pressure, respiratory dose, that can show this effect. The excited uterus contained in the magnolia is a non-volatile substance soluble in water and ethanol.

4. Anti-pathogenic microorganisms:

100% of Xinyi decoction has different degrees of inhibitory effect on staphylococcus aureus, diphtheria bacillus, streptococcus pyogenes, anthrax bacillus and dysentery bacillus in vitro. 15% to 30% yiyi decoction has inhibitory effect on various pathogenic fungi. High concentrations of magnolia preparations also have a certain inhibitory effect on Candida albicans and influenza viruses.

5. Other roles:

Experiments show that: Xinyi has astringent and protective effects on the nasal mucosa, so that secretion is reduced, local microvascular expansion, circulation improvement, can promote secretion absorption and inflammation subside. Topical application of magnolia, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. Magnolia still has anti-allergic effects. The infusion or decoction has local anesthetic effects on the animals (infiltration of guinea pigs and block anesthesia of frogs).
