According to Xinhua News Agency, researchers at Stanford University in the United States have developed a prototype of wearable devices that can detect people's emotional stress by detecting skin sweat and help doctors diagnose diseases caused by stress early.

A study published in the July 20 issue of the journal Science Progress shows that a flexible wearable device can measure people's stress hormone, cortisol levels, in seconds, and it is expected to quickly determine the emotional state of the wearer in the future. Especially children who are not self-expressing.

The researchers said that cortisol can help doctors determine whether the patient's adrenal gland or pituitary gland is normal. Under natural conditions, human cortisol levels are high and low throughout the day, and cortisol secretion increases when stressed. However, the current method of detecting cortisol levels takes several days to get results.

The device consists of 4 layers of material. A layer in contact with the skin absorbs sweat and collects sweat in a reservoir. The reservoir is a layer of nanoporous membrane. The sodium or calcium ions in the sweat can pass through the membrane, but when cortisol is combined with the nanoporous membrane, cortisol blocks the passage of sodium or calcium ions. The third layer consists of an analytical device that measures the concentration of these charged ions to determine the level of cortisol. (Zhou Zhou)
