New national standards for packaged drinking water will be introduced

In view of the quality problems of pure water and bottled water that have emerged in the current year, the National Health and Family Planning Commission recently stated that it is stepping up efforts to improve the "Bottled Drinking Purified Water," "Bottled (Barreled) Drinking Pure Water Standards," and "Bottles (Barrels ) Installed drinking water hygiene standards, etc. to clean up, the future will be integrated to publish new packaging food safety national standards for drinking water.

It is reported that the packaged drinking water standards involve national, local, and corporate standards, of which there are four national standards, but they are all too general compared to international standards. It is understood that the Codex Alimentarius Commission has formulated mineral water and bottled/packaged drinking water standards. The former describes the relevant concepts and types of mineral water, necessary treatment methods, puts forward more than 20 indicators, and specifies water sources, packaging, labels, and detection methods. The latter describes the categories and related concepts of packaging water, necessary treatment measures and operation requirements, labels, and detection methods, etc. It requires that the relevant indicators meet the requirements of drinking water guidelines and no specific indicators have been set.

“This clean-up and integration is a good thing for the company and the industry as a whole, which proves that the country has begun to pay attention to the issue of drinking water standards. At the same time, I think that national standards are relatively the most scientific standards, according to the needs of society, the need for unnecessary standards should be banned."
