Medical robot: both a wheelchair and a hospital bed

As the aging population of Japan's society has intensified, the demand for medical staff has increased. This directly leads to a heavier burden on the shoulders of medical staff. It is almost impossible to do peer-to-peer care for all the elderly. In addition to the heavy workload, medical staff must be careful everywhere. When they move the patient to bed or get out of bed, they may inadvertently injure the patient. Indeed, helping patients move their bodies is not an easy task. Researchers are trying to use mechanical equipment to help solve this problem. For example, Toyota has developed some auxiliary mobile robots. But if the patient wants to change position between the hospital bed and the wheelchair, I am afraid that the machine bed chair named Resyone developed by Panasonic is the most practical. Just recently, this device passed the ISO1342 international safety certification for medical robots.

In order to cope with the aforementioned medical problems, the first intelligent mechanical device developed by Panasonic is called “Assisting Transfer Robot”. The robot has a pair of arms that can play the role of a medical staff, picking up the patient's back and legs and holding the patient into bed. In addition, there are some robots, although the form is different, but the development concept and the things to do are similar. These devices can relatively reduce problems such as injury, but the entire operation process is relatively slow and complicated. Panasonic engineers thought, why not ombud this intermediate process? They decided to change the direction of the research and simplify the whole process, such as directly transforming the wheelchair into a bed?

Based on this philosophy, engineers have developed this robot. The first few versions were cumbersome, and the main body of the robot consisted of a raised arcuate column and an electronic screen. After continuous development testing, they removed the screen and the shape of the robot became more compact. The seat cushion of the entire machine bed chair is divided into two parts, one part is fixed and the other part can be separated, and when it becomes a wheelchair, it can become a part of the seat. When used, the patient only needs to move a little to the side, after which the robot can accurately move them from the bed to the wheelchair. In the whole process, only one medical staff is needed to carry out some assistance, which greatly reduces their burden.

In fact, when developing such mechanical equipment in 2009, Panasonic paid special attention to its safety standards. Now with Resyone's safety certification through the International Standards Organization, Panasonic plans to bring this device to market quickly. In addition, Panasonic is still developing some other mechanical equipment, such as robots for dispensing, in order to improve the safety of medication. Although at the 2009 conference, Panasonic showed a series of conceptual products such as robot gardeners, but it is difficult to fully realize it in a short time. But with the development and use of more and more mechanical equipment, we believe that our lives will become more convenient.
